Smiles

We have a smiler. It started about a week ago, I was singing something stupid to the baby while I changed him and I looked down and he was smiling at me. And I was like, hmm, I was being sort of funny, and he smiled. Next day he was smiling more and even sort of giggling. So I shot a little video (which I'll upload soon) and got this picture. Hopefully will catch a bigger smile "on film" soon with Charles' help.

Ava Rose

My brother Peter and his wife Heather just had their second little girl, Ava Rose! Rose is after our grandmother Rosemary. They had to perform an emergency C-section, but Heather & Ava are doing fine now.
Ava was born at 10:36am. She weighs 6 lbs 10 oz, and is 20 1/2 inches long. Heather says that Ava resembles her sister Hailey a little, but that she actually looks a little bit like Leif. Here is the first picture I've received.

Bath Time

Leif is still very unpredictable with his baths. Sometimes he screams from the moment he hits the water until long after we have him dry and dressed. Other times he takes his bath with a quiet kind of curiousity. Usually by the end he loses patience and starts to cry, and fortunately, he was quite good during this bath.

Baby Blue

Had the baby in the studio again this week- it's a great wake time activity for both of us. He seems to love staring into the studio lights...but honestly, sometimes he doesn't love anything. He just screams.

This collage is to commemorate my favorite newborn outfit that he just outgrew. It's the outfit that he wore home from the hospital. It's funny how attached I got to that little outfit. He looked so cute in it.

Sleepy

Well we can't get him to fall asleep in the studio, but he falls asleep everywhere else....
Asleep while burping....

Asleep in his chair....

Smiling while asleep...

Asleep in his crib...

Now we just need to get him to sleep longer!

Leif- One Month Photos

This was a big weekend. No, he's not sleeping through the night or anything. Friday, I tried on a 0-3 month layette and it fit Leif. So far he's only been in newborn sizes. It sort of freaked me out that soon we would be retiring these adorable newborn outfits that I've grown attached to- in fact, he looked like a different child altogether in new clothing! So, I said to Charles that it was time to set up the studio before our child grows up much more. So, Saturday afternoon we threw out the schedule and put our kid in front of the lights.

The flash lasted for a few pictures when Charles decided that a stationary light would not bother the baby as much- everyone else's kids get their brains flashed out, but not ours...okay, we'll work to change that! Anyway, so we set up the umbrella with a work light from Home Depot and we had gorgeous lighting. Not only that, but Leif enjoyed looking at the light, which kept him wide-eyed and looking in the right direction for the whole shoot. I have to say that Charles and I were both surprised at the pictures- I mean, we know the kid is cute, but he looks super cute in these...don't you think? The studio is still set up, so I think there will be more to come in the following week(s).

Oh, and today Leif is one month old. This morning, I finally cut his hair- don't worry grandparents, you wouldn't even notice it. His hair in back is just getting a little too long and it was starting to look like a mullet. Actually, the final straw came when Todd Babb said that he was a Georgia boy, so a little mullet was okay...and I was like- I'm cutting his hair the first chance I get!

Bunny Meets the Baby

Today Gordy was playing on Leif's activity mat, so I put Leif down there to see if the rabbit would approach him. Gordy's been a little distant these days, but lately he's getting closer and closer, and today he was pretty curious. Unfortunately, my camera ran out of memory before the whole interaction was done, but you get the idea...
